How to Modify Your Nutrition Targets
Modifying Your Nutrient Targets:
1: Fitting your cultivats:
- First method: Take separate tissue tests throughout two growing seasons.
- Regular tissue tests will highlight differences between cultivars
- If you see nutrient deficiencies appear in two consecutive tests, first check for elevated levels of another nutrient that may block uptake. If none are present, increase your feeding by 20%.
- Second method: Take a Standard Soil Test at the beginning and end of each cultivar. This will show the overall removal of nutrients during a season. Just adjust targets by 20% at a time.
2: Pot size
- Smaller pots run out of nutrients more quickly. If you are growing in small pots, increase your macronutrient target levels by 33%. If doing this, do not exceed 1500ppm soluble salts in young plants, or 2200ppm for older plants.
- Leave 2" in the top of your pots to add two top dressings of very rich compost.
3: Light & CO2
- Increasing these will increase your photosynthetic rates
- Nutrients presented in this course cater to outdoor lighting.
- If you are growing in an indoor environment, you can often push your target levels up a bit
